Rocking Our Sensory Needs at the We Rock the Spectrum Gym!

My students need to work on socializing in public while working on their sensory needs! This project will cover the cost of admission to the We Rock the Spectrum Gym.

My Students

A typical day in our classroom varies from working on academics, fine motor, life skills, sensory needs and so much more. Our students with Autism need assistance on how to function in today's world so we try and focus on a lot of real life skills in our classroom, especially communication.

Our school is a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students are at a poverty level and therefore qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

In fact, 63% of our entire school qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch.

Our elementary school has an amazing autism program that is designed to meet the needs of our students for small class settings that are highly structured. We currently have six teachers with classrooms with low functioning students with autism. Our class is constantly busy to help keep our students on task but sometimes, they need more to help them get through the day.

My students are creative, loving, smart and non-verbal! I work with students with Autism who are mainly non-verbal and work so hard at the smallest task that we take for granted.

My Project

Have you ever been in a public place and don't feel like it's the right fit for you? Our students feel this all the time when we take them in public.

For this field trip, our fabulous students will have a chance to be in the public with their peers while working on their sensory needs at a gym that is made just for them!

Our field trip to the We Rock the Spectrum Gym can help the students experience different ways to work on their sensory needs while showing their parents who join us what works best for them.

This field trip will also help the teachers take data for our students on what sensory items at the gym they are using, so we can get these resources for our own sensory room.
