Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a School Librarian, I make a positive impact on all 600 students in our learning community. My campus is a Title I school and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They show up to the library bright-eyed and eager to read, communicate, collaborate, and learn. The library is the heart of the school and a safe place where students can build a love of reading.

My students have a wide variety of learning styles and levels.

Each one is unique, and everyone in the library respects each other. I care about my students, and they know it! My goal is to encourage students to become independent and lifelong readers and learners.

At the library, students enjoy reading a good book, being innovators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. I especially love that they are creative and try their best at everything that comes their way. I want my students to remember me when they grow up, so I make them feel welcome, safe, and important on a daily basis.

My Project

I am requesting a throw pillow and cover, and a rocking chair for a safe and welcoming environment where literacy development takes place. As a School Librarian, I meet with the entire learning community from Pre-K through 5th grades. The rocking chair will be used in the carpet area with my young readers and learners.

My students visit the library every week for 45 minutes and during that time I always read them a book.

Mental health awareness has always been close to my heart, but this year more than ever. My students are going through a confusing and scary time, so I want to be able to provide them with a safe and welcoming space. The rocking chair will make a huge difference when we sit together in the carpet area because I will no longer have to sit on a small student chair.

The pillow I chose has a positive message to remind students that they are loved and important. Thank you for helping me provide a safe and welcoming space for all of my learners.
