Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are housed in the most restricted environment due to their behavioral, academic and emotional needs.
Rocking in a chair relieves anxiety and can help my students regulate their emotions when they are in a state of unrest.
We are located in a small mountain town and rely on our natural resources for our hands-on learning. My students practice Community Based Instruction (CBI). CBI is defined as educational instruction that happens in naturally occurring community environments.
Some of my students need to regulate their emotions and rocking has proven to be successful. Having a portable rocking chair will help alleviate much anxiety and allow for outdoor exploration.
The vibrating sensory tools will help the students that have stimuli needs and come in different colors.
We often take hikes and will have our lunch or snacks while out and having these sensory items available and easy to access helps with the transition from school to our field trips.
