My Students
Sound is all around us. To create music with that sound is something completely different. My students have not had the chance to create music with soprano glockenspiels and this will enable them to expand their musical knowledge.
My students are outgoing and yearn for more musical knowledge and the chance to participate in creating music.
Our school is a high poverty school and the materials I bring into our music classroom is sometimes the only exposure these students have to music. I want to be able to instill in students an understanding and appreciation of music and to experience creating music first hand with instruments is a remarkable joy.
My Project
I am requesting four soprano glockenspiels for our classroom to allow students the chance to create music on an instrument that they might not otherwise experience. Our classes only meet for 30 minutes so active participation time is crucial. With four instruments every student will have the chance to create and improvise on an instrument.
Our classroom lessons will become more fun and engaging for students as the get to experience what we are learning. Carl Orff is known for saying, "Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand." I want our students to be involved musicians and experience the joy of music first hand.
As all teachers, my students mean so much to me.
These instruments do not just affect one class, or one group of students, but they touch over 500 students every year! Having quality instrumentation is paramount to having a dynamic music classroom in which kids are enriched in learning.
