This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way. Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have. A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 3rd year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the headphones we need for our Chromebooks or the flexible seating for my students with special needs.

My Project

Room 31 has just become a one to one Chromebook classroom with the help of our district! Yay! With the headphones from this project, students will have the opportunity to participate in a program called SeeSaw, where they record their own voices to share their experience in a given task. They can make videos of them selves working through a problem and then share it with their classmates.

Laptop tables will allow them to have more flexible seating while using Chromebooks or reading independently.

I have found that the more opportunities they have to get out of their seats, the more successful they become.
