Rockin' Stompin' Rockets

My students need water and stomp rockets for hands-on learning for force and motion and trajectory, and to compare and contrast between water and manual launch systems.

My Students

My day is filled with bright and energetic 6th graders who desire to have more hands-on science activities.

My school is a Title I school with over 90% of my students qualifying for free or reduced lunch due to low economic status.

They are very motivated and eager to learn, but often do not have the resources or experiences that help them achieve better in science. Hands-on activities can help teach a concept better than a textbook.

My Project

With the water and stomp rockets, my students will be able to experience hands-on activities for force and motion, aerodynamics, trajectory, and STEM concepts. My students will also gain pride in building something, being able to watch it launch, and then explaining their design and process to others. Through trial and error students will design and redesign the rockets to get the best possible launch.

This project will help my students better understand force and motion, as well as boosting their self-esteem.

Students learn better from experiences and this is a project that they would be able to design, build, and then test the rockets, thus improving STEM thinking and the pride in their rockets design.
