My Project

In the music classroom, it is important that every student is actively involved in their own learning through participation in a variety of musical activities. One of the best ways to keep students engaged is by putting an instrument into their hands.

At my school there are 450 students ranging from preschool to 5th grade.

I see every student in the school two times a week for thirty minutes. My students are a bright group of children who are excited to be at school. They enjoy being challenged, and love to sing and play instruments. When high expectations are presented, the students excel and achieve above and beyond.

These metallophones will be used to add a deeper sound to our xylophone ensemble. It's important that students get a chance to explore different timbres. We will use this instrument to help practice keeping a steady beat with younger students. Older students will use this instrument to practice reading music and accompany a variety of songs and stories.

The more instruments we have in the classroom, the more students get a chance to play. Students are especially excited by playing bass instruments because they make such a low sound. This instrument will provide another creative outlet in the music room and more opportunities for the students to participate and be actively engaged and involved in music making. In our classroom, we live by this Chinese proverb as a motto: "Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand."
