My students need 5 alto recorders and 5 neck straps in order to create an enhanced ensemble experience in the music classroom.

My Students
Remember being in music class and being given a recorder to play? Ever wonder what this instrument will do to help you learn music? These instruments allow students to experience playing in an ensemble, learn to listen to and be aware of others rather than yourself, and learn music literacy skills.
Our students love the arts and being able to express themselves creatively.
Each class has both music and art twice a week, but suffer due to lack of materials and funding on a district and state level. While we do our best to shield our students from these hardships through creative measures, basic supplies and materials are often lacking. I would love to offer the best experience I can to these students while they are in music class.
Our school is a small, high achieving neighborhood school in the heart of a large urban city, in the midst of financial crisis. The small size of our school (one of each grade K- 8th grade, and a K-8 program for students on the Autism Spectrum) contributes to our family atmosphere that values fundamental regard for all children. Our learning community serves an economically and culturally diverse population of students living both in the surrounding neighborhood and communities from around the city, all of whom receive free breakfast and lunch each
My Project
Playing in an ensemble teaches valuable skills of teamwork, while teaching music literacy, note reading, fine and gross motor skills. Our students will be learning to read the treble clef, rhythms, and melodies through this project.
Participating in these activities allows my students to have a way to express themselves freely, channel their anxiety and offers an outlet for emotion that many have a hard time articulating.
It is my hope that participating in music class can help take them away from their hardships at home and allows them to have a second of joy and accomplishment as they create all kinds of music.
In addition to all of the social and emotional benefits that participating music affords, research shows us that music, especially playing an instrument, increases a student's language skills, their ability to focus and increases their memory skills.
Please help me to brighten my students day and to give them the best experience in music that I can!
These students are very special, talented, and most importantly, eager and ready to learn.
Music seems to be an area where each of these students has the potential to excel. When reading and math are difficult to wrap your head around, music can offer an outlet for expression and relaxation. These instruments are the key to their success.
