Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We love to read but most of our novels are outdated. We brush the dust away and read on, but we would really love to have some modern titles that deal with topics that interest us.
We are a group of 65 7th graders from the Bronx, New York.
We attend a school that has an extended day which means that we work really hard. We are motivated to get to college and we recognize that reading is a crucial building block in this process.
My Project
After a 10 hour school day and 2 hours of homework per night, my students have a busy schedule. New exciting books that appeal to their interests (suspense, intrigue, drama, family relationships) will mean that they will be extra motivated to finish off their day with a good book. I want them to get into the habit of carrying a great book with them everywhere--to be so excited about the plot that they can't stand the thought of having to put it down. The titles on our project list are by exciting authors who've crafted compelling plots.
By supporting this project you will help put new book titles into the hands of dedicated readers.
So far we've made the best with what we have but new titles will make all the difference.
