Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a primarily Hispanic area on the south side of Chicago. Many of the students speak two languages, with some students being new to the United States. My students come to class everyday excited to learn more about the world around them and how the world works.

In our school we are fortunate enough to have supplemental income that allows teachers to run after school programs.

My first year here I began a guitar club and have been running this club for the last four years with the guitars our school already had from a previous music teacher.

Recently our school has won a grant through Bach To School and we got twelve brand new Fender and Yamaha guitars and six new guitar amps. This addition of these guitars will allow me to have more students then before join our club. With your donations I'd like to be able to get cases for them to ensure these guitars last and stay in excellent condition.

My Project

These materials will help students in my after-school guitar club keep our school's brand new guitars safe, and secure for years to come! The guitar club is extremely popular at our school and with the addition of 12 brand new guitars, we will be able to double the number of students who get to participate and learn a new instrument. Learning a new instrument has many benefits such as math skills, brain growth, increased memory and concentration, social skills, and coordination. Learning a new instrument can also help students become more confident.
