My Students

My students are natural-born scientists and explorers. They just don't know it yet! They are inquisitive, they want to learn, they're analytical, they crave new learning experiences, want to search for meaning and truth, share their own stories, and become agents of change to make the world a more verdant place. And it is my job to facilitate and give them access to the knowledge and the skills they need to get the answers and purpose they seek. We, like many public schools, struggle with purchasing new supplies, especially technology, and we must then rely on your generosity to fill in the financial and ultimately learning gaps that allow us to get the technology, experiences, and opportunities our students need to grow into passionate academics and global citizens.

My Project

I am often aware that as an environmental science advocate, scientist and educator, I am one of the most blatant offenders when it comes to using paper. I just love paper. I also love what paper does to my students' learning- it's tactile, it allows for visual processing, it teaches note-taking and annotation skills and according to research- it just increases student learning when compared to digital note taking via a laptop or iPad. However, I think as an educator and student myself, the two can coexist and have a wonderful partnership. This is where Rocket Everlast Smart notebooks come in.

I would love to bring my students a long-lasting, sustainable solution for note-taking that combines the advantages of paper and the ease of digital dissemination.

With the Rocketbook Everlast Smart notebook students can use the same notebook pages over and over again, year after year, saving tons of paper that would otherwise go in the trash. We can now still have students use paper for all their note processing, knowing that we are working towards reducing our carbon footprint in a sustainable, long-term manner. But that is not all- using these notebooks can be made even more functional by integrating them with our Google Classroom/Drive- systems our students and educators already use as part of our daily classroom routines. Using these notebooks students can share, post and save notes digitally, making class projects and group activities more engaging and more successful.
