Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Incorporating technology in the classroom engages all students, even the ones who do not necessarily find school fascinating.
Most of my students are from low income and high poverty areas.
Some of them have speech difficulties and learning disabilities, while a few cannot speak English at all. Yet despite these challenges, many of my students are motivated and eager to learn. They come to school everyday on time. They ask deep, inquisitive questions. Some of my students want to be doctors and vets, while others want to be lawyers and teachers. Most of them want to be all these great things because they want to help people. My students have these goals in life, and they've even dedicated their goals to their mom, dad, siblings, and to themselves. However, because they belong to low income communities, most of them have not been exposed to a lot of opportunities outside of their neighborhood. Some of them lacked the basic knowledge of spelling and measuring taught in elementary school, and most of them are unsure of whether or not they will achieve their goal in life.
My Project
A document camera will allow me to display notes and specimen underneath it so that my students can see these on the projector screen. This technology is useful in many ways: One is during note-taking, which my students are required to do nearly everyday. By projecting notes on the worksheets, students will know exactly where to write their own notes. This makes a tremendous impact on students who learns verbally and visually. Secondly, document cameras can aid in going over homework and quiz answers, which allows students to clearly see their mistakes and learn from them.
In a few weeks, my students will be dissecting frogs to study anatomy. While the dissection lab helps immensely and students are excited to do the lab, the safety procedures must be enforced. With a document camera I can show the proper techniques to dissect the frogs so that students know exactly what to do during the lab.
Student engagement is so important for being successful in school.
By having document cameras in the classroom, I will be able to do demonstrations and display models for all my students to see. Please help my students stay engaged and invested in science so that my students can succeed in school.
