This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year we will continue to learn the fundamentals of jewelry crafting. As part of this journey we will gain an understanding of how rough-hewn rocks can turn into beautifully polished pieces. To do this, we will need a rock tumbler that processes them over several days. As part of the National Geographic Kit, students will learn the science behind this conversion as well as geological concepts. Once the rocks are tumbled, we will mount the stones onto jewelry such as bracelets, rings, and necklaces. The finished pieces will be sold on our Etsy shop to benefit student-chosen charities.
