My Project
In 6th grade, we have put an emphasis on important engineering skills, specifically through the Engineering Design Process. Students have been working in teams to solve problems just like engineers do in the real world.
For the next activity, we imagine that an asteroid is on course to impact the Earth, and students must use the engineering design process to design the location and size of underground caverns to shelter the people from an uninhabitable Earth for one year.
In order to design a successful shelter, students need to understand the properties of different types of rocks.
Your donations to this project will help my kids explore specimens of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock, as well as test the hardness of each to determine which type of rock would work best as an underground cavern!
