My students need 50 books such as "Remarkable Farkle McBride" and "Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin" to use for a music reading center and inspire musical performances.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love books as much as they love rock music. However, they do not have access to many books that are relevant to their studies in music. Year in and year out, our students struggle with their reading and fluency skills which has a direct correlation with their music reading skills.
Nevertheless, our students are creative and driven to succeed.
Most of them are English language learners and face daily economic hardships. Despite these struggles, they value their education and look at their music time as a time to channel their creativity and musical intelligence in a way that emerges past the walls of the music classroom.
My Project
Because English is a second language for a majority of our students, they need extra help reading and performing music. “Rock, Roll, and Read” is an initiative that will enhance students’ learning in the music classroom through the use of 50 books. These books will serve the students in two ways. First, the books will serve as a reading center when we have "center days" in music. Secondly, these books will challenge students to apply both what they are reading and what they are learning in music to various projects and performances. The books have been specifically chosen to connect with various musical concepts that we learn as a class. Imagine how much more relevant a story will be a to a student if they act it out with songs and dances, or if they work as a group to create a response using classroom instruments!
As a former student of this district, I understand the rigors and hardships of growing up in a high needs setting.
Such settings call for very thin and frugal budgets. Consequently, our music program is in great need of your support. Your donation is a tangible investment in the lives of hundreds of students who crave excellence in their musical performances.
