This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one." ~Stella Adler
My students are amazing.
They are sweet and have a genuine thirst for learning. They are like little sponges...whatever I teach them, they learn with joy. They look forward to our art adventures each week and I love the time that I spend with them.
We are an urban school in New Jersey with a high level of poverty. Most of our students receive a free lunch. But even though our families do not have a lot of resources, the parents are actively involved in their students' education and the students are very respectful.
Unfortunately, I am running very short of basic supplies and there is a spending freeze in my school district. I want to continue to provide a quality art program for these students, but I need help.
My Project
I am hoping to continue to give my students a quality art program that meets the New Jersey core curriculum standards for visual and performing arts. I am asking for the very BASIC supplies that we need to create our art projects...drawing paper, construction paper, glue sticks and model magic clay.
Please help me to inspire the youth of our capital city. Let's let them know that they matter and that art is important.
"Art is literacy of the heart" ~Elliot Eisner
Having art in my students' lives gives them something positive to look forward to.
Art is a level playing field for students with disabilities, allowing them to express themselves in ways where words often fail.
