Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To promote kindness, fair play, and connection across our entire school community, we are launching a student-led initiative centered on a social-emotional recess and lunch game inspired by Rock, Paper, Scissors. We are requesting a treasure box, bead necklaces, and colorful gems to bring this vision to life. These materials will be used to spark joyful, inclusive interactions among students of all grade levels, support staff, and teachers. The game is simple yet powerful: students challenge each other in Rock, Paper, Scissors, and the winner receives a bead from their opponent. At the end of the day, all beads are returned, making the activity sustainable and cost-effective.

Student leaders will be responsible for managing the materials, explaining the game to others, mentoring younger peers, and modeling respectful play.

Each morning, they will distribute bead necklaces and gems from the treasure box, setting the tone for a positive and playful day. Gems may also be awarded for acts of kindness, leadership, and good sportsmanship. This initiative supports the Allstate Foundation’s mission of promoting Kindness by creating a space where students of all backgrounds and personalities can connect, be seen, and celebrate one another. It provides a low-pressure way for quieter or more isolated students to engage, while empowering student leaders to build a culture of inclusion and mutual respect.

The project’s design allows for flexibility and growth—student feedback will inform future improvements, and themed weeks or family engagement events can expand its impact. This initiative doesn’t just benefit one class; it reaches our entire school, uniting everyone in a daily act of connection. Our students will lead the way in creating a more compassionate and cohesive school community—one bead, one game, one smile at a time.
