This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic young musicians whom are excited to have a formal music program offered to them for the very first time! Each week, they enter class, excited to make music.
Our music program is completely new, serving all of the K-5 student population.
In our program, true music literacy is the cornerstone of our pedagogical philosophy, where students will learn to read, write, listen to, and perform music in culturally relevant contexts.
In an effort to meet our school's mission of creating technologically astute students, I am requesting a class set of tablets for the music classroom, so we may integrate technology as part of our instruction.
My Project
This project serves to work toward our goal of a class set (30) guitars for our upper elementary students. Through donations, grants, and other assistance, we currently have 22 guitars, (only 8 to go!!) out upper elementary students have been eager to get back to playing in school/practicing at home, and the addition of a guitar curriculum will be a huge motivator for our students — they’ve long been asking for the chance to play guitar! Using these new instruments I am excited to teach beginner guitar, and possibly even introduce our students to songwriting!
