Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is such a great place to work and play. The room itself was physically designed for general music education and I am very blessed to get to come to work here each day.
My students are respectful people and come from some of our lowest income families.
A great majority of students come from Puerto Rico and Cuba, and are very happy to be here. Learning in English is challenging for most students. They love to please you and work really hard to complete tasks and do their very best.
My Project
The mixing board is the main control of the sound. Our Keyboards and vocal mics have no other amplification except for the main house speakers in the room and the monitor speakers. For everyday applications the board sits mostly still, but when the after school rock band kicks up the board comes alive and so does it's operator. This years rock band needs a sound tech and I'll be coaching a student to do just that. The board operator will learn every knob and slider function and be able to serve the groups needs for setup of any equipment. Students will learn to create and manage 2 separate monitor mixes, equalize the channels, send a mixed signal out to the mains, and send an audio signal out to a recording device. This part of the team will be relied upon heavily and will show students that every member is critical, not just the performers that are up on stage, all performers.
Our current mixing board is failing and doesn't include the features that we need to move forward as a performing group.
The mixer has been used daily for the last 17 years and the addition of the Soundcraft board will insure greatness for the next 20 or more. Less time fixing equipment equals more of my time spent coaching my students. I look forward to teaching students how to operate a great sound board instead of constantly diagnosing problems with the current one.
