My students need an iPod Nano and computer speakers.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Goode's classroom raised $377

I teach a group of 14 second grade students in a rural county in Indiana. I recently attended a conference on the importance of music in the classroom. The professor demonstrated how doing group projects with music playing made us feel more comfortable and allowed us to be more productive during group time. Music has also been linked to activating more neurons in the brain and allowing students to pick up new ideas more quickly.
There is a song for every subject and spare minute in the classroom. To decrease behavior problems I want to play a special line up song. Instead of arguing over someone cutting in line the students will be singing and dancing along to the song. During group work time I want to play active songs to build the children’s energy and allow them to be as creative as possible. During silent reading time I want to play a low level instrumental to drown out the outside noise of movement and pages turning in the classroom.
After the conference I tried to include music in my everyday procedures. IT WORKED! The only problem was down time while I hunted for another CD with a particular song and then changed it. Although this was not an ideal situation, the change in the students made it worthwhile. After playing music everyday for about a month my CD player broke. Everyday the students asked me to play the music for them. They wanted to hear their lineup song and silent reading song.
I am asking for an Ipod to hold multiple songs, to avoid changing CDs. This will eliminate the downtime and bring the enthusiasm for music back to the classroom. I am also asking for speakers to enable the Ipod to be heard in the classroom. Think about how much easier it is to drive your car while you are listening to your favorite song. I am asking for students to get this same opportunity and make learning more enjoyable and easier.
