Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an array of culturally diverse backgrounds and live mostly in East Oakland, with some traveling from nearby East Bay communities. The majority of my students are Latino, Asian, and or Black. Many of my students will be the first to pursue higher education in their families. Our school is a Title 1 school that caters to many bilingual families where the main home language is often not English.

We, Matadors, exemplify GEAR every day, which stands for Grit, Empathy, Ambition, and Respect.

My students are powerfully resilient young people who trust in the power of education. They make being a teacher a blessing, not a job.

My students are strong students in academia who are also very invested in the well being of the community. They are all students who are apart of the Key Club organization here at my school and highly motivated to lead or participate in community service. Many of these students are leaders at our school because they understand that paying it forward is a key component of being a well-rounded person who recognizes that they are interconnected with all of the world around them in a deep manner.

My Project

These materials will support math and science courses in collaboration at my school. Interdisciplinary work is essential for the successful development of students for real-world work. Students will work together to collect data, solve problems, and analyze the data.

Using robots to model, challenge, and develop new methods of understanding content will enable students to access higher levels of thinking with excitement.

Our world is one filled with technology which is why students need access to real-world technology that enables dynamic learning opportunities.

Through these robots, we can connect students to STEM realities today!

Some of the main topics we will use these robots to model and challenge students include:

Properties , Variables, Equivalence, Equations & Inequalities, Proportionality, Function, Modeling, Visualization, Transformations, Measurement, Reasoning & Proof, Similarity, Coordinate Geometry, Environmental Science Applications, Biological Science Applications, Chemistry Applications, and a great opportunity for upper class students to support lower-class students in many ways to improve learning.
