My students need 3 robots and some accessories so that they can create the coding necessary to manipulate the robots.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kahn's classroom raised $286

My Students
Even though my school has a focus on technology and teachers are expected to incorporate digital literacy within their lessons, the students do not always get an opportunity to be creative and use electronic tools in new ways. I want to give them a chance to collaborate and play to design something new.
The school’s mission is to provide an academically rigorous education with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
The school serves students in grades 6th-12th who must meet academic standards to be admitted and who live throughout the district. The population is diverse in terms of socioeconomic status as well as racial make-up. Though the students are high performing academically, many come from families where they will be the first to attend college. The parents choose the school for their children because it is one of the best in the district, and the parents are making an effort to give their child an educational opportunity that they may not have had themselves. One hundred percent of the graduates have continued on at a four year college or university since the first class graduated in 2009.
My Project
Introducing robots into the library seems like such a good fit because the library is all about students learning using different modalities. It is hoped that this project will open the students’ eyes to the possibilities of what they themselves can make happen when they use code to manipulate the robots. The students will program their robot and have the opportunity to work alone or in collaboration with others when they visit the library.
Students will have the freedom to bring in ideas for the robots, collaborate with others to design robot movement or robot competitions with their friends, or find a way to fuel their passions for technology.
This project will be open-ended, and students will not have to be bound by grades, time, or requirements to participate. Learning can happen in many different ways, and this activity should serve to bring like-minded students together of various ages and abilities who are willing to work as a team to create something new with their robots.
