Robots and Coding and Learning, Oh My!

My students need Ozobots and other programmable robots to learn how to code.

My Students

We are a Title I school, and many of our students face financial hardships. Our school is home to many students from several local housing projects. Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds with a wide variety of ethnicities represented.

Despite the struggles that many of our students face at home, they come to school ready to learn.

We have many ELL (English Language Learners) students, a good Special Education program, and teachers that work hard to foster a sense of school community and inclusiveness. Our students are wonderful elementary students that work hard to be the best that they can be.

My Project

My students need programmable robots, an Osmo Gaming System, and books to teach them coding and robotics. These materials will be used throughout the year for a number of activities in our classroom MakerSpace. Students will be able to explore coding and robotics as part of their school day. Education is continually asking students to find answers using formulaic processes, but coding encourages students to strive for new answers, create innovative solutions, and work collaboratively to explore interests and learn new skills.

By helping support this activity in our classroom, you will encourage multiple learning opportunities.

Our students will learn perseverance, that it is okay to fail as long as you try, and the importance of working collaboratively as a team to solve problems. Students will learn skills that will help them later in life which are no longer taught in the classroom.
