Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are located in the heart of South LA, and thus reflect both the diversity and challenges of their community. Despite the challenges they may face, my seventh and eighth grade students are incredibly engaged and curious towards every hands-on science project we tackle in the classroom. Tinkering Labs robotics kits allow us to integrate concepts on forces and motion, electricity, circuits, and engineering, as well as push my students' problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Not only is this approach piquing student interest in STEM classes, but ultimately, laying the foundation for students of color to build interest in STEM careers.
My hope is to provide more hands-on learning opportunities that continue to engage my students and build an attitude of lifelong learning towards STEM.
