Robotics for Intrigued 4th Graders

My students need a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robot kit to provide an opportunity for them to test the coding skills they are learning in class with a very engaging device. They are very intrigued by robots!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to our school to participate in the gifted program from several different schools across our district. Our school has a 64% free and reduced population and is ethnically diverse. Many of the students speak a second language at home and have parents who immigrated to this country from across the globe.

If my students had a this LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robotics kit they would be able to take the coding they are learning in class to the next step and actually use these skills to program a robot to complete tasks and follow coded commands.

My students are intrigued by robots and how they work and an opportunity for them to actually program their own LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robot would be an amazing experience for them.

My students come to school with a passion for learning and a willingness to work hard, especially when they are challenged. They have a strong interest in learning more about technology and having opportunities to use a variety in the classroom. They do not all have access to technology at home, thus I hope to provide opportunities in school to help level the playing field for them.

My Project

My students become very excited and engaged when given technology and have been so excited to learn coding this year. They have been working hard and have already completed a course on Code.org and begun creating games. When they are engaged with coding they are almost laser focused and any conversation they have is related to debugging a code they are working on or sharing their accomplishments.

Having a LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robotics kit that they can code to accomplish specific tasks will be a thrill for them.

I can actually picture their excitement if we actually receive this robot. This is not a product their parents would be able to provide for them at home, so if they could have one to use at school that would be an amazing opportunity for them.
