Help me give my students a chance to create and compete in challenges with robots they build.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have almost 500 students enrolled at our campus. The majority of our students are English language learners and qualify for free lunch programs. We offer an after-school program that gives low socioeconomic students a variety of classes to choose from and develop certain skills. These range from cooking to computer coding. As the computer lab teacher, I see all students in class at least once a week.
They come eager to learn and excited to take on any challenge.
They look forward to the special classes they have available.
My Project
I want my students to experience the challenge of having a long-term goal. We saw videos on Youtube of robotics competitions and they thought it would be fun to participate in similar challenges with robots they build. I told them I would write the project to receive donations and in the meantime, they would partner up and research what the robotics competitions consist of so we can be ready when we receive the funding and purchase them. It may take a while to get this project fully funded and then it will take some time to build the robots but having a long-term goal that they keep pursuing is a good thing for young students like mine. They will see at the end that it took work and determination to accomplish our long-term classroom goal of having a robotics competition.
My students were so excited to find out that robotics competitions consist of racing the robots, obstacle courses, and precision driving.
I requested two robots so that we can have students partner up and face off against each other in a tournament-style competition. One student drives while the other provides navigation assistance and helps with the robot repairs if needed during the competition. I also requested cones to use as course markers and for the obstacle course we will create.
