My students need a laptop computer in order to program and control competition robots!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Evele's classroom raised $889

My Students
All students need to be prepared to work and function in a technological society. Our students advance their educations by building and programming robots. However, learning what you need to know in order to build a competition robot is a daunting task!
The students on our robotics team are an excellent cross-section of our school.
On our robotics team, we have high achieving honors students, as well as high achieving special education students. We effectively serve many types of students in our program. Our high school is a suburban, Michigan school of about 1800 students.
My Project
The laptop computer we are requesting will allow students to program and control one of their competition robots. Our students are learning how computer programs can be used to define how a robot functions, moves, senses and interacts with its environment. Learning how to write a computer program becomes an exciting experience when your program begins to control things in the real world! Writing a program that controls motors, servos and pneumatics is a compelling and more practical way to acquire programming skills. Once students have used the laptop to write the code for their robot, they will use it as a driver station to send commands to their robot remotely. The resource we are requesting, a laptop computer, will be an essential part of one of our Robot Driver Stations.
Our students will graduate into an increasingly technological world.
It has been long understood that they need to have a high degree of competence in mathematics and science, however, that is no longer enough. They will also need to understand the connection between those concepts and the real world. Robotics provides the vehicle to foster that understanding. The resource we are requesting through Donors Choose will bring us closer to that goal.
