This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've observed that students love to invent and build things, but none of them express the desire to become engineers or inventors. These materials are for a new class at our school,robotics and engineering, which will teach students what engineering is and perhaps inspire some to become engineers.

Test scores at my school were really low, but recently, students have made enormous gains.

The administration, teachers, and students worked really hard to make that happen. The next step, now that our students have gained some serious math and science skills, is to provide some hands-on engineering projects to inspire them to apply their knowledge.

My Project

My students need golf balls, wire cutters, craft sticks, and copy paper to build towers for a competition in their engineering class. Students will learn by competing in a series of challenges including creating the tallest tower that can hold up a golf ball, building the catapult that can project a marshmallow most accurately and designing the parachute that can drop a washer at the slowest rate. Through these progressively complicated competitions, students will learn to hypothesize, plan, test, and revise.

I know kids will be engaged by these projects.

Students in my class are still making up their minds about what they want to do with their lives, but they don't really know any engineers. Your gift will make such a difference because it will expose them to some awesome possibilities!
