My Project
76% of our middle school's students are students of poverty. State test scores reveal that the students I serve are below the state average in both ELA and Mathematics. From sixth to eighth grade, interest in reading tends to drop off steadily. A decline in reading leads to a decline in literacy which impacts all learning.
This project is designed to inspire reading Harry Potter books, books that teach about robotics and all other books with a renewed interest in the magic of the library.
Students will use inquiry skills to educate themselves about the workings of robotic vacuums which they will present to other students in written form. They will then design and create an addition to the requested robotic vacuum to make it look like a flying book while still being functional.
This project will stimulate and renew interest in reading books from the library with a positive impact on classroom learning.
