This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Physical Educational teacher, and I serve over 600 students. My ultimate goal with true sincerity is to make our community stronger and healthier. Our students do not have much, but are always very eager to be active and have always been very grateful with the limited resources available.

Our students are very respectful and our community is built on hard work.

Unfortunately our school is title one, 97% of our students are on free and reduce lunch. Most of our students can barely afford shoes and clothes. This problem is seen as a challenge for our students who consistently meet it with a smile, hard work, determination and always trying to have fun. My students can be found working hard in my class trying to develop healthy habits, participating in our "Roadrunners Against Diabetes" program and after school sports program. This says a lot about the type of students we have. I can always count on them to try their best because I expect the best from them. I truly care about my students and I give them many opportunities to be active and have fun in a positive atmosphere.

My Project

The materials will desperately help our school in many ways. Our recess cart is depleted and needs to be replenished. The cart serves the whole school for 45 total minutes of recess. The materials will allow students to play football, basketball, soccer and volleyball. My goal as a physical education teacher is to always have my students moving and being active. In order to do that we need to have plenty of equipment for every student to be active.The materials will also serve our after school program. My students participate in a year long after school program that includes a variety of skills, sports and games. Students learn football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and baseball. The materials will help the program and provide every sport with equipment to be used. Last year we had over 80 students participating in after school sports. The program not only teaches students to be active and healthy, but also teaches them core values. This aspect has a great impact on our school.

This project will make a difference in that it will allow our students many opportunities that they might not have at home.

It will allow them to be in a positive environment with tools to be successful. Our students are the cornerstone of our community and keeping them busy and active in school programs has the capability promoting positive outcomes. I want to offer my students the best program, and provide them with a mindset that they can reflect on and say that they were inspired.
