Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fourth grade teacher in an urban, K-5 public school that is a majority of students coming from low income families. Most of the students also speak English as a Second Language.
Our classroom is a community where students can explore learning and discover many new things.
My students face diverse challenges in all areas of their lives.
Regardless of these challenges, my students enjoy coming to school and learning new things. They enjoy making discoveries everyday and take pride in making academic strides.
My Project
Ron Clark Academy is a school in Atlanta, Georgia which has seen incredible amounts of growth and student success. Teaching in a low-income, high poverty area similar to Atlanta means I can hopefully recreate some of this success in my own classroom by learning the strategies these wonderful teachers use. My students consistently face disadvantages and could benefit from a new, more engaging learning style which helps them access curriculum regardless of socioeconomic status.
Attending Ron Clark Academy means being exposed to classrooms which have already witnessed the benefits of a 'Wild Card', out-of-the-box teaching style.
This could benefit my students not only this year, but for years to come.
