My students need a river ecosystem tank with live plants and animals.

My Students
"Blah, blah, blah..." Sound familiar? That's the sound of a teacher lecturing a class about the amazing river ecosystems found in North America. Forget lecturing...let's see that ecosystem in action!
My students are in grades sixth, seventh, and eighth.
They attend a small rural school in Pennsylvania. They come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students are not interested in science, because there's "too much reading" or it's "boring" or "too hard." I want students to love science and learning as much as I do.
My Project
The river ecosystem tank set will allow all three grades of science students to analyze and apply higher-level thinking skills to their lessons. I've requested a set of live plants and animals, so students can experience caring for and studying living things.
In sixth grade, students study vertebrate/invertebrate animals and food webs. Seventh grade students get an in-depth look at the nitrogen and carbon cycles, as well as the organization of life (all the way down to the cellular level). In eighth grade, students explore and review the relationships between living things. This ecosystem tank can be used with every science class at my school!
The ecosystem project will not be possible without the success of my DonorsChoose project.
My goal is to inspire students with real-life application of science theory, and to help them develop critical thinking skills and a lifelong passion for learning.
