My Students
My students are the most amazing individuals with the potential of being great! My third and fifth graders live in a low socioeconomic environment and attend a Title I school with almost 75% receiving free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. Many of them struggle with the basic needs of having such things as clean clothing, food, and stable shelter.
My students are exposed to living in violent neighborhoods on a daily-basis.
Guns, drugs, gang activity, prostitution, robberies, and homicides are prevalent throughout their neighborhoods. Many of them come to school with things other than school on their mind. The disconnect between home and school is enormous. They lack the ability to adequately use computer technology from limited computer access. The key to changing their lives is continued use of modern day technology.
My Project
I am requesting a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. This technology will allow my students to be actively engaged in lessons by giving them a hands-on approach to the latest technology while learning. This Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will help facilitate student learning by meeting a variety of their learning modalities such as: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. This advanced technology will give my students access to the most advance ways to meet state standards requirements.
My students will be more successful by using this Microsoft Surface Pro because they can have more hands-on opportunities to learn.
I feel like many of my Special Education students are at a disadvantage because they have difficulty using technology because computers of this type are limited. This touchscreen device would give them better access to promote academic growth and overall achievement on mandated testing. This tablet would be used in my classroom to help drive instructions for all students.
