RISE-ing to Success: Sensory and Social-Building Supports for Exceptional Learners

Help me give my students sensory tools, social games, fine motor activities, reinforcers, and materials that help staff create individualized supports for every learner in our self-contained special education classroom.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their incredible resilience, creativity, and the joy they find in even the smallest victories. I teach in a self-contained RISE classroom - Reaching for Independence with Striving for Excellence - where every student has unique needs, strengths, and learning styles. My students thrive when they are given the right tools, support, and opportunities to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Watching them build confidence while learning to communicate, connect, and create is the most rewarding part of my job.

Each item in this project has been carefully selected to support the whole child.

Sensory tools like Kinetic sand and fine motor activities using garage sale dot stickers or fine motor tools, help students regulate their emotions and strengthen essential motor skills. Games like Pop for Addition and Subtraction, Go Fish Alphabet, and our collection of board games support academic growth while also encouraging turn-taking, patience, and communication. These play-based activities make learning fun and meaningful for our students while promoting social interaction.

For our classroom to function smoothly and effectively, we need resources that support daily routines and individualized instruction. Items like mesh zipper pouches, white sticker paper, and a drawer storage organizer allows us to create and store IEP goal materials for each student. Tools like a hot glue gun, aprons, and Lysol wipes help keep our creative spaces functional and clean. Items like STEM toys and pixel art cards inspire critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative expression in ways that are accessible and engaging.

This project is more than just supplies; it's a chance to give my students the tools they need to succeed and to celebrate their unique abilities every day. With your support, we can continue building a classroom environment where independence, growth, and excellence are not just goals, but daily experiences.
