My Students
I am teaching Pre-K in a NYC public school. I have 13 students. Music is so important and often forgotten. In my class my students love to play music on our CD player and we have made some musical instruments with paper towel rolls and other household supplies. But, it just isn't the same as using traditional instruments to make music, march with and use along with a cd. I would really appreciate your support in getting what would support my students. I want to continue to instill a love of learning, music and risk-taking that will last each of them a lifetime!
My Project
We love music and singing songs. Over the year, we have made our own musical instruments. I would appreciate your support in helping to support musical exploration. I am requesting instruments that would help my students with rhythm and beat and overall fun! I am requesting items that my class and I brainstormed together. We decided that the instruments that we desire the most are the triangle, tambourine, cymbals, bells, and a pair of maracas. I would love to let them explore through play but then teach about the origin and introduce the basic music vocabulary. As my students listen to songs we will discuss the rhymthic patterns that we notice. Then, we will try and mimic the same patterns with our instruments. We can also try to extend the patterns creating a new song. In addition, I am requesting a shelf to store these items on. Students need to have organization. The shelves will have baskets that are clearly labeled with a picture of the instrument and the name of the instrument underneath it. In addition, the same picture and label will be on the shelf so that they can become independent when cleaning up. Pre-K is the beginning where a foundation is built upon. Thank you for supporting us as we learn and grow.
