My Project

Hello! I am a Special Education teacher in Washington D.C., preparing for my first year of teaching! While I am incredibly excited to get into the classroom, I am in need of more supplies for my first and second graders.

The items I've listed specifically address the emotional, behavioral, and sensory goals I've set for my students.

As they face barriers due to their identified disabilities, it is vital to have supplies that make them comfortable and empowered to learn. Whether it's visually stimulating posters, personal fidget toys to hold while solving equations, or a comprehensive binder that includes each student's Individual Education Plan, I want to serve my students wholly and equitably.

This may be my first year teaching, but it is not my first time advocating. Many of my students are nonverbal and require feeling charts to communicate. Other students may become overstimulated and need calming items like weighted stuffed animals to help them regulate. Stickers reflecting their special interests further build a positive relationship with learning, which is often lacking for individuals with disabilities. As these remarkable young minds work diligently to learn, it is my job to advocate for their needs. This list not only represents that advocacy in a tangible form, but also, empowers us to create a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.

Here’s to amplifying the voices of my students and ensuring that their unique abilities shine brightly in a world that too often overlooks them.
