Rigorous Reads for Rigorous Minds

My students need to have a greater choice of challenging books to increase their reading skills. I have included the popular Lemony Snicket series, and beloved classics!

My Students

Every week my 6th graders graph their progress towards a preset reading goal for the quarter. Students are motivated to reach the point goal, and also the goal for a specific reading level set for maximal increases in their reading skills.

I teach at a title 1 school full of bright eager students ready to take on any challenge I can offer them, they motivate and inspire me every day with their drive for success!

Reading a highly engaging book is the highlight of our day. We discuss frequently the challenge of finding another book as good a the book they just finished!

My Project

My students have done an excellent job of increasing their reading skills this year, but new standards challenge students to read books at higher reading levels and greater text complexity. To meet this need students will use the books I am requesting to have a wide variety of high interest books at higher reading levels to choose from. Choice is key to reader engagement and enjoyment, and students engagement is key to learning!

Our current classroom reading collection has far more choices of books at the 3/5 grade level.
