My Students

Did you ever read a book that you could not wait to finish? This is what I want for my students, Andrew Clements does a fabulous job capturing his audience. My students do not usually have books at home and I like to provide them with the opportunity to have one in class.

My students are from a poor inner city neighborhood in Pennsylvania.

They rarely have teachers who choose to stay at the school because of the many hardships faced in the community. This will be my fourth year at the school, and I am excited to be moving up in grade level, and teaching the older students from the importance of falling in love with books. Many of these kids do not have books in their home. I want to change that, I want to introduce them to the fun in reading, not just the learning in reading.

My Project

Many of my students are english language learners, and sometimes become embarrassed by their accents. I plan to use this book, No Talking, to help them understand the importance of language and speaking (even not speaking). These books will help them develop listening, reading and speaking skills, since each students will have their own we can read together and independently completing group activities and developing our interest in reading. This book also have mysterious and humorous twist that I know will help develop my students interest in reading material that is on their level, which they sometimes find intimidating.

The most important part of my job at this particular school is to get the students interested in reading and building the confidence as readers.

Many times our students are introduced to books in a text book where they only get an excerpt and they only read to learn one specific skill. I will use these books to emphasis the importance of reading a full book, becoming a character in the book and just falling in love with what you are reading.
