This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Could you imagine being behind two years or more in reading?
My students come from poverty.
They are well behaved boys and girls who have to work much harder than other students because they are drastically behind academically. They attend a turn around school because they failed the CMTs for nine consecutive years.
My Project
We need the listening center with headphones and book bins to help them become better readers and stay organized. These resources will allow my students to listen to higher level texts during readers workshop. Being able to listen to texts above their independent reading level will help build their vocabulary and give them a greater interest of reading. It will also help build their confidence since their reading options are limited to picture books due to their reading levels. They will be able to listen to chapter books and boost their confidence.
This project is important to me because I strive to create lifelong learners.
I want my students to enjoy learning and reading. I do not want them to struggle constantly and abandon books.
