My Students
Science is everywhere...everything is Science! That is the motto in my classroom. The best way to engage students is to help them see the connections between Science and Literacy. Ms. Frizzle to the rescue!
I teach 22 curious, natural born third-grade scientists in a small Title I school with approximately 350 students and an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEAM correlations (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Science) whenever possible.
My Project
When Science and Literacy are connected, the learning possibilities are endless! In my classroom I provide my students with as many hands-on STEM opportunities as possible! The Magic School Bus literature series not only give my students fun and engaging reading selections, they also show them the how Science and Reading are interconnected. By having these books in my classroom my students will learn core concepts in literacy necessary to succeed in reading, and be engaged in Science activities and investigations connected to each story, so my students will also learn key Science concepts, a double whammy! They will learn and have fun! That is the beauty of having class sets of this wonderful reading series. In addition, my students will use the Chromebook computers requested to produce digital book reports and multimedia presentations such as PowerPoint and comic strips based on the Magic School Bus chapter books highlighting the main ideas of the stories.
This donation will contribute to our my classroom's literacy program by adding reading titles that are engaging to my students while providing a fun way to learn key concepts in Science and Reading, and enhance our technology resources by providing additional devices for my students to use for research and classwork.
