Rich Hands-On & Minds-On experiences for All learners
My students need equitable access to hands-on and minds-on experiences through technology and authentic text with the Amazon Fire and current grade level events in Time for Kids magazines.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds to attend our Title I school. These are the students that pull themselves up by their boot-scraps and don't make excuses. The students that enter from impoverished neighborhoods with resilience and determination are the students I proudly teach.
Many times lacking adequate background knowledge, still they rise!
My students usually enter the classroom 1-2 grade levels behind but constantly give their best effort to set goals and close the achievement gaps because they know I have high expectations for them all. Due to the expectations, encouragement, and effort, the students soar!
My Project
Equitable access must be granted to all learners in order to close the achievement gaps. My students lack the access to the materials needed for authentic learning experiences.
The supplies requested allows students the experiences needed for real world learning to take place.
Time for Kids magazines both in print and digital will give access to students at school and at home. The microscope allows students to leap beyond the pages of a text book and explore real life in a pond ecosystem.
The use of the Kindle Fire tablets allows cooperative learning groups to research and explore various topics.
