My students need a tubano, drumsticks, cowbells, shakers guitar strings, guitar tuners and new trumpet cases to help us explore the music of diverse cultures.
In the light of recent tragic events, my students bring about hope for a better future. While they hail from all over the globe, speak a multitude of different languages and come from a wide array of economic situations, they work together in unity. Through playing in a band together they learn the values of teamwork, tolerance, understanding and loyalty. We see our wonderful diversity as an asset and a strength. I can only hope that they can carry this notion of setting aside differences to achieve unity into the future.

My Project
Ever since we began a small lunch time bucket drumming band five years ago, the interest in world music has taken off in our community. Two years ago our bucket band, known regionally as "Home Depot's Finest" performed at a chamber music festival at the Juilliard School! This year general music classes will be offered to students wishing to explore the music of diverse cultures.
There is no better way to teach students to understand different cultures than to immerse them in authentic music making experiences.
The drumsticks will be used on our buckets and trash cans and the tubano will be a welcome addition to our small but growing inventory of world music drums. The shakers and cowbells will play an important role in our exploration of the music of the African Diaspora, Latin America and the Caribbean islands. Finally the guitar strings and tuners will help our students explore folk music in our guitar classes. Thank you for supporting our community of passionate and energetic young music makers!
