This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters.
My students are returning to a blended learning where a majority of my students will be learning online.
I would like to provide my students rewards that they can receive for completing their online assignments.
My Project
I am a Social Worker in a South Bronx middle school seeking funding for rewards for my remote learners.
This year is like no other as we return to school and I have to think outside the box on how to reward my students for being kind to each other or completing their online assignments.
I always promote kindness. Unfortunately in the group chats I hear of a student who lacks self esteem or worse is being cyber bullied. When we were all in the school building this was handled with mediations or individual counseling sessions. This year, as many of my students will be learning remotely, I would like to put a positive reward in place for when a peer steps in to the chat to support their classmates.
Having gift cards that I can send to the students' homes will be a reward that they earn and will be incentivized to build each other up.
