Third grade is truly amazing! My school is a Title I school and my students are from a low to middle-class background. One hundred percent of the student population at my school receives free breakfast and lunch.
While my students face numerous disadvantages and challenges daily because they come from a lower socioeconomic background, they do not let that impede them from trying their best to achieve their educational goals.
It is very noticeable that to aid students in productive learning, they must have some sort of attainable incentive that motivates them to have the drive to excel. I have observed for quite some time that the incentives/rewards that seem to inspire my students the most are healthy snacks and little tangible toys. Not only do the snacks motivate my students, but they also help provide a form of nourishment. The majority of my students come from very low-income households where they do not have access to a snack that will be nourishing to them. With the end of the school year approaching fast, this would provide my students with rewards to encourage them to do well with test prep and as a motivational factor for positive behavior. Since my class is so large the desk requested would also help me to be more mobile and flexible while teaching all of my students throughout the day. To ensure that every child receives an equitable educational experience.
