Rewarding Students for Good Work and Good Behavior
Help me give my students snacks for good work and good behavior. It has been proven that students cannot learn when they feel unsafe or are hungry.

My Project
I will use the snacks to reward special education students for their good work and good behavior in class, specifically when we undertake important assessments and when they behave very well.
Traditionally, motivating special education students in middle school can be difficult because they begin to realize they are not at the same level as their peers (friends), and they begin to believe that they are not as smart, so they begin to give up academically.
They also begin to act out socially if this hasn't begun in grammar school grades.
In my 25+ year career as a special educator, I have found that immediate, desirable rewards work best with special education students, and students at the middle school level are always hungry! This ties in to the well researched theory that a student cannot/will not learn if they feel unsafe and are hungry.
