About My Students

Madi, Makenna, Taylor, Elizabeth, and Rachel helped to develop this project after a presentation from the author of Leadership and Soft Skills. I am excited to see my students put the lessons from that presentation into action to improve the culture of the school.

Our student government and National Honors Society attended a presentation by the author of a leadership and soft skills book. They wanted a way to motivate students to become models for others and practice soft skills such as timeliness. Our student leadership decided on bi-weekly drawings for prizes for students who demonstrate these skills on a daily basis. They selected the prizes and treats themselves after deciding that a random drawing was a way to encourage soft skills in our student body. They did some research and found that an award-winning high school has a program similar to the one they are starting, and they are trying to mimic the changes that program had on attendance.

My students will prepare for college and careers by learning project management skills as these drawings are put into practice. They will develop qualifications for entrants and procedures for the drawings and prize distribution. In addition as they prepare this project, they will need to consult administration for approval and write up reports and proposals, so the project can last beyond their time at the school.

In Their Own Words

Our idea is to reward those students who are dedicated to excelling in academics and demonstrate proper attendance for the semester. Those who meet proper criteria will be given a “Semester ID Card” allowing them privileges such as parking spots and hall passes. They will also receive a T-shirt and we hope to enter these students into a raffle drawing where they can win big prizes. Our goal in all of this is to motivate students and further their education and academic standards.

As leaders of this project, we will serve as project managers and role models for the students. We will be organizing the drawings and promote the project with the students by encouraging them to get to class on time. Students participating in this project will be leaders by reshaping their behavior to try to achieve a goal. We will also help other students, and overall everyone will improve the work they do in school. Students will show great leadership to younger students as role models.

This project would be very helpful to the individual students within our school. The student will be more apt to do their work and attend school so they can qualify for certain levels. This will then lead to the student having higher grades and better attendance records, which will help them in the future when applying for colleges, jobs, etc.
