Our students are faced with many challenges every day, both inside and outside of the classroom. My school currently serves about 800 students with ninety-eight percent of students at our school being eligible for free/reduced lunches. Our students come from a variety of cultural, social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds.
Our students are amazing and so incredibly capable, but do not always come to school ready to learn due to circumstances that are outside of their/our control and often times, they need a little more encouragement and motivation in order to get them going.

My Project
This year we are using a math program called, Acaletics to help boost our overall achievement and learning gains in math! This program is a 7-day per week program where students are practicing and spiral reviewing math skills that they have been learning throughout this year. The ACALETICS method of math instruction teaches students that the preparation required to be a good athlete is what is necessary to be a good student – practice, practice, practice!
Our kids need more motivation to help them want to continue to practice their math skills over the weekends and holiday breaks.
In order to help keep our students motivated, they will receive fun prizes for working so diligently on their Acaletics program, even during their holiday breaks!
This is my first year working at my school and my first year in a math coach role, and I am loving every minute of it. Our students are hungry to learn and can do anything they set their minds to! We serve about 800 students at our school, and I cannot do this alone. I want to reward our students who show initiative for continuing to practice their math skills, even when they aren't at school, by having them choose snacks and prizes for continuing to work so diligently to improve their math scores!
