Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at my school are visionaries, excited to take on or push forward the next internet trend using what they have learned in school. They are future engineers, entrepreneurs, and small-business owners in Miami, Florida. Leadership and group collaboration are natural desires for our students.

Many of our students' schedules don't have the space for elective classes due to their needs for additional intensive reading and mathematics.

It is because of their scheduling limitations that our students greatly look forward to the extra-curricular opportunities following the school day.

My students' backgrounds reflect the rich diversity of our city. 54% of our school's students identify as Hispanic, and 45% identify as Black or African American. 97% of students at our school receive free or reduced-price lunches.

The challenges my students face at home without a doubt play a factor in their learning, but when we are in school I teach them to control what they can when they can. Most of that control lies with what they learn and accomplish at school.

My Project

Students this year have consistently told me they felt like school was all work and zero play. The coronavirus pandemic hasn't made it any easier.

It is my hope that with the hard work students have exemplified this year, I can deliver on the "play hard" mantra we have kept up with.

A rewarding dance party to allow students to be kids would not only reward students for the great work they've done thus far, but it will also incentivize students to strive for their goals in the future.

These materials will be used to put on a neon-themed party for students who have not been to a dance since the pandemic began. Unfortunately, to keep it outdoors requires some new equipment that we do not have currently. With this purchase, we will be able to safely allow this event for our students.
