Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some of my students have not yet discovered technology that captures their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and my students become engaged in their learning using these powerful tools, and can become creators and critics instead of just consumers.

I work in an elementary school with 100% free lunch/ Title One.

My students live in a high transient community. Most of my students are first generation English speakers. Their parents have little or no formal education. Although most families own some type of technology device, for my economically disadvantaged students, my classroom is the only place where they are given the opportunity to use a computer and integrate technology into their learning. I am determined to provide my students with rich genuine learning opportunity that will transfer into long lasting life skills.

My Project

I am requesting 2 Osmo Gaming Systems to have the opportunity to explore technology and 2 two-year protection plans. Osmo’s games fire up multiple intelligences. I am optimistic it will help my first graders with spatial, interpersonal and motor skills; this is a way more nourishing experience than a simple touch-screen experience where you entirely zone in on the game and lose sight of the outside world. The Osmo gaming system will help my students take responsibility for their learning outcomes, while I become more of a guide and facilitator in their learning. Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class. Effective tech integration must happen across the curriculum in ways that research shows deepen and enhance the learning process. I feel the Osmo gaming system will provide my students with that opportunity.

I have not yet tried this games but I hear wonderful things about them!

I am hoping the Osmo gaming system will impact my students' achievement across content area learning by promoting higher-order thinking and problem solving skills.
