My Students
My school is located in the southern sector of Dallas county. We service an exponential number of at-risk students (high retention rate, high absenteeism, discipline referrals, high drop out rate, teen-pregnancy and large SPED population). We strive to not only prepare students academically but socially and emotionally as well. We want them to be productive citizens no matter what course they take in life (college, trade school, military or work-force). We recognize that we cannot reach these students in the traditional manner that we ourselves were accustomed to. We must be creative and innovative in our approach.
My Project
My students amaze me every day. Some are so hungry to learn but then there are those that because of situational thing from home and peers, they just cant seem to focus to be the student that we know that they can be. Middle school can be cliquish and sometimes students my not know where they fit.
As the school counselor, I would like to add an iPad and Apple Pencil to my list of resources for students to use to meditate and calm down.
There are many apps available to download that help students practice meditation. I would use these to teach them options that hopefully they will like and then can download on their own technology and use it at home.
